Now that we have concluded the 50th Anniversary shows, we have set our sights on returning to the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN, Town Hall in NYC, and the Historic 1894 in Galveston, TX, for four Christmas-themed shows featuring the house band plus our acting company. We sure hope you can be with us for a festive evening filled with laughter, music, stories, and sketches — and maybe just a few holiday classics in the form of a sing-along. Join us this December!

This week on A Prairie Home Companion, we’ve stumbled into grace with a very special guest, Emmylou Harris and her Nashville band. Also with us, bluesman Spider John Koerner, The Royal Academy of Radio Acting (Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and Tom Keith), The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band with Pat Donohue, and our happy host, an escapee from the Silent Generation, Garrison Keillor.

When Emmylou Harris was child, she wrote a letter to Pete Seeger, concerned that if she was living a sheltered life at her parents’ house and hadn’t suffered enough, she couldn’t be a folksinger. Pete wrote back, saying: “Don’t worry. Life will catch up with you. You’ll suffer. Don’t go hop a freight.” It worked out. With dozens of acclaimed recordings and countless awards, including more than a dozen Grammys, Emmylou maintains a widespread and loyal following, whether she’s singing folk, country, pop, or traditional tunes. “Spider” John Koerner, traditional American folk and country blues musician, rhythmic guitarist, song-crafter, singer, and humorist, shaped his musical style from a solid foundation of study of the old blues masters, respect for the traditional song, and a firm command of his source material.
Andra Suchy spent her childhood on a farm near Mandan, North Dakota, the daughter of two talented singers. By the time she was in grade school, she was traveling around, doing concerts and festivals with her family. She sang with several groups in the Twin Cities area — including the all-girl trio The Dollys. And she could be heard as a back-up singer and as a jingle singer on commercials for White Castle, Target, and more.
